Trump blasts German chancellor over Iran: ‘Doesn’t know what he’s talking about’

President Donald Trump on Tuesday had harsh words for German Chancellor Friedrich Merch over his disagreements on the Iran war.Merz, like many European leaders, has been critical of the Iran war and generally declined to offer material support to the U.S. in its efforts. The general hesitance from NATO’s European member states to support the U.S. has led Trump and his administration to openly question the value of NATO.
“The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about!”
“If Iran had a Nuclear Weapon, the whole World would be held hostage,” he added. “I am doing something with Iran, right now, that other Nations, or Presidents, should have done long ago. No wonder Germany is doing so poorly, both Economically, and otherwise!”
The Iran war began in late February with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that took out Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Despite the ongoing ceasefire, negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan have stalled and the risk of a return to active fighting remains.
