President Donald Trump endorsed South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette for governor on Friday, throwing his weight behind a direct rival to Rep. Nancy Mace in the crowded June 9 Republican primary, and sending the clearest signal yet that defying him on the Jeffrey Epstein files carries a political cost.
Trump called Evette “an America First Patriot who has been with me from the very beginning” in a Truth Social post Friday afternoon. He praised her as the only gubernatorial candidate to endorse his 2024 presidential campaign at launch. “She crisscrossed South Carolina and other States for me, and I said, at the time, that this is truly something which I cannot forget!” Trump wrote.
