Trump-backed John Sununu wins Republican nomination for New Hampshire Senate

Former New Hampshire Republican Sen. John Sununu on Tuesday night defeated former Trump ambassador to New Zealand Scott Brown for the Republican nomination to represent New Hampshire in the Senate. Sununu, who secured President Donald Trump’s endorsement earlier this year, defeated Brown with 69.7% of the vote compared to 25.2%, according to the Associated Press. 
The president endorsed Sununu, whose brother is former New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, in February, touting him as an “American First patriot” and as the candidate with the strongest backing among conservative leaders in the state.
Sununu will now face Democrat Chris Pappas in November, which comes as Washington Republicans hope to flip the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
