This week, in his address to the UN General Assembly, President Trump called out several dictatorial regimes in front of the world, at an institution whose Human Rights Council he has called an embarrassment for enabling Christian persecution and shielding dictators.
The UN has a long record of placing abusive regimes on human rights bodies. In 2003, Libya, then under UN sanctions for terrorism, was elected to chair the Commission on Human Rights, the Human Rights Council’s predecessor. Saudi Arabia won a seat on the council in 2016.
