Trump asks SCOTUS to take up asylum ban at Mexican border

The Trump administration this week asked the Supreme Court to take up a case involving the president’s ban on asylum applications at the Mexican border.The day one order has been blocked by a lower court ruling in the D.C. Circuit and is one of Trump’s many immigration reforms that have faced judicial scrutiny. 
Solicitor General John Sauer filed the petition on Monday, The Hill reported. In it, he argued that “[t]he D.C. Circuit should not have the last judicial word on this cornerstone of the President’s immigration policy.”
The order would bar illegal entrants who crossed the southern border outside a port of entry from claiming asylum in the U.S. The asylum process has long been one of the primary vehicles for keeping illegal immigrants in the country, despite apprehension.
In his first term, Trump imposed the Remain in Mexico policy, which required that would-be asylees stay outside the U.S. while the courts processed their asylum claims.
