President Donald Trump on Monday repeated his assertion that high gas prices were the result of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, rather than the Iran war.Trump has repeatedly insisted that the eastern European war, specifically the Russian and Ukrainian strikes on one another’s energy grids, has contributed more to the global fuel crunch than the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“What’s driving up Gasoline is no longer the Strait of Hormuz, because Record Numbers of Barrels are coming out now on an almost daily basis, but the word, ‘Refineries,’ where Russia’s are being blown up by Ukraine, and where ours are being closed up, in Blue States, like California, by the Dumocrats,” he posted on Truth Social.
The narrative comes ahead of the November midterm elections, which Democrats currently are favored to win. Trump hopes to defy the historical trend of the incumbent party losing ground in the midterms and has promised $5,000 payments to American citizens if Republicans hold both chambers of Congress.
