The Trump administration has expanded U.S. intelligence operations in Cuba in recent months, according to two people familiar with the effort, as Washington intensifies pressure on the island’s communist government to reform or collapse.
One person said the United States has recently sent additional spies and intelligence assets into Cuba but declined to detail the scope of the effort or which of the 18 U.S. intelligence agencies are involved, citing concerns about compromising operations. A second person described the shift as an increase in the CIA’s presence on the island but similarly declined to give specifics. Both spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter.
