The Department of Justice this week dropped an appeal against a court order that blocked the Department of Education proposed limits on a student loan forgiveness program. The DOE sought to bar people working at immigration-related non-profits and a series of organizations working on left-wing causes from eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, according to The Hill.
A federal judge blocked the restrictions earlier this year, prompting the DOJ to appeal, though it ended proceedings without explanation this week.
Eligibility for student loan forgiveness under PSLF requires that borrowers working in specific fields make payments for 10 years before becoming eligible to wipe their remaining balances.
