Three high-ranking D.C. police officials are reportedly facing termination or other disciplinary measures, following an internal affairs probe into alleged manipulation of crime statistics. The possible terminations were reported Tuesday by The Washington Post, citing unnamed sources.
The Justice Department, Republicans in Congress and the District of Columbia have been looking into the allegations.
The city’s Metropolitan Police Department’s disciplinary process will give any officials accused of misconduct the opportunity to defend themselves. The process can take years and involve arbitration.
A spokesperson for the department said an assistant chief and a district commander were placed on administrative leave, though he didn’t disclose the reasons. The third officer reportedly facing termination, also a district commander, is already on administrative leave and was previously the subject of an investigation related to crime statistics, according to the Post.
