Three people are dead and two first responders remain in serious condition after an unidentified substance sickened everyone who entered a residence in Mountainair, New Mexico, on Wednesday. Eighteen first responders who arrived at the scene began showing symptoms of their own, forcing authorities to quarantine and monitor them at a hospital miles away.
The incident, which New Mexico State Police initially treated as a suspected overdose call, has escalated into a multi-agency investigation with hazmat teams still working to determine what killed three of the four people found unresponsive inside the home.
