Ted Turner, the yachtsman, media mogul, and environmental philanthropist, died this past week at the age of 87. He left behind five children, three ex-wives, a fortune of almost $3 billion, and a “conservative” legacy that would make Bill Buckley and Ronald Reagan blush.

Now, to be clear, Turner was an avowed liberal. He supported left-wing political and social causes for much of his adult life. He was adamantly and vocally pro-choice. To put it bluntly, Ted Turner was probably the last person who would associate himself with the GOP and the second-to-last person (behind only Mrs. Fonda-Turner herself) with whom the Grand Old Party would associate itself.
