Researchers from Flinders University in Australia reported an aqueous zinc-iodine battery that completed more than 60,000 charge-discharge cycles and can be charged in about three minutes, according to a report from Interesting Engineering.
The findings – described in a new study published in the journal Angewandte Chemie – point to a possible path for low-cost, long-life batteries for stationary energy storage, the report stated. It said the researchers attributed the performance to changes in the cell’s electrode and electrolyte design.
