A study of 5,520 adults aged 50 and older found that the combination of abdominal obesity and low vitamin D levels was associated with a 123% higher risk of death over a six-year period, according to researchers at the Federal University of São Carlos in Brazil.
The analysis drew on data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, and the findings were published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, the research team said. [1] Among participants with neither factor, the death rate was lowest.
