    Study Links Plant-Based Omega-3 Intake to Survival in Fatty Liver Disease

    Liver cancer killed an estimated 484,000 people worldwide in 2021, a death toll that has more than doubled since 1990, according to data cited in a new analysis [1]. Fatty liver disease, now recognized under the broader name metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), sits upstream of a large share of those deaths and currently affects an estimated 4 in 10 adults globally, the report stated [2].

    A newly published analysis tracked more than 6,300 adults with fatty liver disease for close to a decade, following what they ate and who survived, according to the report [1]. The nutrient tied most closely to staying alive was omega-3 fat, and the relationship was not a simple ‘more is better’ curve, the report stated [1].
