    A study published in the Journal of Wood Science has found a link between the essential oil of hinoki root (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and sleep improvements. [1] The findings suggest an overlooked forestry byproduct could eventually become a natural ingredient in sleep and relaxation products [2].
    Trial Design and Home-Based Method

    The study used a single-blind crossover design in which each participant spent two weeks using hinoki root essential oil and two weeks using an unscented control, with a one-week break between the two periods [3][4]. Hinoki, also known as Japanese cypress, is an important timber tree in Japan, but its roots are often left behind and unused after logging, according to the study report [4].
