Many U.S. states are starting to roll back their way too generous programs providing free healthcare for illegal aliens as federal tax dollars funding them are drying up and state budgets are stretched past the point of no return. A total of six states, including Washington, D.C., have either eliminated, greatly reduced, or are in the process of planning to make cuts to state-funded health coverage for immigrants due to budget pressures.
The changes are a reaction to the 2025 Budget Reconciliation legislation passed by Congress in 2025. The bill, which President Donald Trump christened the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” made a number of large cuts in federal funding for healthcare for immigrants in the United States. States including Illinois, Minnesota, California, Colorado, North Carolina, and Washington state have now cut programs and reduced spending for healthcare coverage for these individuals over the last several years.
