The U.S. State Department designated five individuals and five entities tied to Cuba’s ruling apparatus on Thursday, landing sanctions squarely on members of the Castro family dynasty and the man who holds the title of president in Havana, Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The designations, issued under Executive Order 14404, block every sanctioned person and organization from doing business with American individuals and companies. They also put foreign banks and firms on notice: deal with anyone on the list, and you risk sanctions yourself under U.S. law.
