The State Department announced new sanctions Wednesday against multiple transnational far-left terrorist networks, including an Italy-based group that supplies the digital infrastructure for Antifa cells in the United States. The department said groups like the Autistici/Inventati Collective are designed to provide far-left extremist groups with the means to organize, recruit, communicate, and carry out violent attacks while remaining beyond the reach of the law.
The U.S. also imposed sanctions on the transnational groups Palestine Action and Masar Badil.
“Violent far-left terrorist networks, such those targeted today, pose a threat to the United States and our foreign partners,” State Department spokesman Thomas Pigott said in a statement. “There will be no refuge for violent extremists who wage war on our civilization and plot to undermine law and order, destroy critical infrastructure, assault political opponents, or conceal their crimes from authorities. We will use all the tools and authorities at our disposal to fight terrorism and protect our way of life.”
The actions mean that all property and interests of the designated groups that are subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and all U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them.
The announcement comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with delegates from dozens of countries last month to discuss the “resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism,” which he claimed is driven by a “globally networked” group of far-left terrorists, who are turning to violence to advance their political agenda.
