WASHINGTON—The fear was in the air when the woman stood in front of a Falun Gong booth in Manhattan’s Chinatown, handing out flyers to raise awareness about the ongoing persecution in China against her faith.
“Be careful,” a Chinese man passing by said. Someone may come and smash things up, he told her.
