    Speaker Johnson’s call to fix Social Security draws sharp pushback from Senate Republicans

    House Speaker Mike Johnson told a Louisiana radio audience on June 8 that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid “have to be adjusted and fixed”, and within hours, members of his own party in the Senate were backing away from the idea as fast as they could.

    Johnson’s remarks on the Moon Griffon Show, first reported by ECIKS.org, landed just as the Social Security trustees released their annual report on June 9 projecting that the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance trust fund will become insolvent in 2032, three months sooner than last year’s forecast. If Congress fails to act before the fund runs dry, beneficiaries face automatic monthly benefit cuts of 22 percent.
