Democratic socialist candidate Francesca Hong appears poised to claim the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin governor, a recent survey has revealed.Hong led with 26% of registered Democrats in the latest Marquette survey. Former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes placed second with 15%, while Joel Brennan received 2% and state Sen. Kelda Roys received 1% support. Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez received 11%, despite dropping out of the race.
Should Hong win the nomination, she will likely face Rep. Tom Riffany, R-Wis., in the general election. Wisconsin is regarded as a battleground state, but the last Republican governor, Scott Walker, left office in 2019.
In the primary, Hong also appears poised to sweep the far-left bloc, with 58% of “very liberal” voters saying they would back her, as well as 26% of “liberal” voters.
Conducted July 8-16, the survey questioned 838 Wisconsin registered voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.5%.
