Six Flags has temporarily closed roller coasters at multiple amusements parks across North America following a fatal accident at Six Flags Over Georgia. The closures are at parks in Georgia, California, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina and Canada, Fox News reported. The amusement park operator gave no date for when the rides will reopen.
A company spokeswoman told Atlanta’s WSB-TV that the temporary closures are out of an “abundance of caution.”
“The safety of our guests and team members remains one of our highest priorities,” the spokeswoman said.
Georgia’s Cobb County police said several other people were injured in the incident.
A witness told local TV station WXIA an image of the man falling was captured on his souvenir picture taken while on the Goliath ride, which the Six Flags website says can reach speeds of 70 mph.
Six Flags officials said in a statement they were “deeply saddened by the guest incident,” and that park workers and local authorities responded immediately.
