Senate Democrats won a symbolic victory Tuesday afternoon after a handful of Republicans joined them to pass a resolution that would cut off the U.S. military campaign against Iran. Four Republicans joined their Democratic counterparts in the upper chamber to rebuke President Donald Trump and the conflict in the Middle East. Democrats were also aided by the absence of Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky and Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania, according to Fox News.
Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana joined nearly every Senate Democrat to adopt the resolution in a 50-48 vote.
The legislation already narrowly passed in the House but will not go to the president’s desk for his signature and does not carry any legally binding weight.
