Senate Democrats are demanding the Pentagon justify Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s newly announced plan to screen troops’ testosterone levels, the latest instance of resistance from a party that has spent years slow-walking efforts to restore basic health and fitness standards across the armed forces.
Sens. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Gary Peters of Michigan, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Ruben Gallego of Arizona sent Hegseth a letter last week pressing for details on cost, implementation and the scientific rationale behind the directive, which requires service members age 30 and older to have their testosterone checked during annual physical exams. Troops under 30 may opt in voluntarily, and any resulting treatment remains voluntary regardless of age.
