Scientists Identify Six Previously Unknown Structures At Earth’s Core-Mantle Boundary
Researchers in China have detected six previously unknown structures at the boundary between Earth’s mantle and outer core, according to a study published in the journal JGR Solid Earth. The structures lie approximately 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles) beneath the surface and were identified using an artificial intelligence model that analyzed seismic waves from more than 5,000 earthquakes.
