A planned power link between Romania and Moldova will bear the name of President Donald Trump, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau announced on Tuesday. The “Trump Liberty Line” is aimed at boosting Moldova’s energy independence and comes with the support of $130 million from the U.S.
“The project will create significant opportunities for U.S. firms by enabling Moldova to adopt and utilize U.S. technologies,” the embassy said in a statement. “It will unlock potential across multiple sectors, including transmission infrastructure, grid optimization technologies, information and communication technologies (ICT), nuclear power, and battery storage.”
Moldova sits on the border of NATO. A former Soviet Republic, its territory was once part of Romania, but was annexed by the Soviet Union during World War II. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Moldova became independent, though some factions have called for reunification with Romania.
