Researchers Map Six Enzymes Behind Toxic Compounds With Medicinal Potential in Wolfsbane, Larkspur
Researchers from Michigan State University and the Czech Academy of Sciences have mapped six enzymes that wolfsbane and larkspur use to produce diterpenoid alkaloids, a class of toxic compounds with reported potential uses against pain, cancer, and malaria, according to a paper published in Molecular Plant on August 3, 2026. The study documents the first six molecular steps in the biosynthetic pathway in the Aconitum and Delphinium genera, the researchers said.
