Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina went on national television Wednesday and declared that President Trump’s pick to lead the U.S. intelligence community doesn’t “have a prayer” of Senate confirmation, and he wasn’t the only GOP senator saying so.
Trump appointed Bill Pulte, the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as acting director of national intelligence on Tuesday, layering the intelligence post on top of Pulte’s existing role overseeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Outgoing DNI Tulsi Gabbard had announced last month she would resign June 30. The appointment drew immediate resistance, not from Democrats, but from the president’s own party in the Senate.
