LOS ANGELES (CN) — A coin flip. A dead heat. A jump ball. With less than a month to go before the end of LA’s mayoral election, these are the cliches political insiders are employing to describe a race that’s closer than anyone thought it would be.
Both pundits and prediction markets give a slight edge to the challenger, Nithya Raman, a 45-year-old Indian American city councilwoman. The most recent poll nonpartisan poll, taken by the University of California-Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and the Los Angeles Times in mid-September, showed Raman with a robust 11-point lead over the sitting mayor, Karen Bass. But with 33% of voters remaining undecided and a range of unknowns about a seemingly disgruntled electorate, the outcome of the race is far from certain.
