    Pro-life group pushes for Senate investigation into NIH funding research using fetal organs, tissue

    A pro-life group, 40 Days for Life, is asking the Senate to investigate the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding that went to research using fetal organs and tissue. In January, the NIH announced it would no longer fund research that was using tissue from elective abortions, but 40 Days for Life wants a deeper investigation into government-funded studies conducted prior to the NIH ceasing funding, the New York Post reported. 
    In the group’s newsletter that came out Thursday, President Shawn Carney wrote that 40 Days for Life has “a unique perspective on the damage that abortion causes, women, society and obviously, the unborn. We also see daily the abuses of the abortion industry, including the exploitation of aborted baby body parts and tissues.”
    Carney urged Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Chairman Bill Cassidy, R-La., to conduct the probe.
