A pro-Republican group this week committed to spending millions in support of Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., in his bid to unseat Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., in November. One Nation announced Thursday that it would spend $15 million in support of Collins, whose race against Ossoff is expected to be one of the most pivotal races in the battle for the Senate, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Formerly a reliably red state, Georgia has become increasingly competitive for Democrats in recent years, with the state narrowly breaking for President Joe Biden in 2020. It currently boasts two Democratic senators as well.
The One Nation cash infusion should prove a boon for Collins, who has lagged behind Ossoff in polling. The out-of-power party typically performs well in midterms, so the headwinds are blowing against Collins.
But the Senate Leadership Fund has also committed $44 million to back Collins, meaning he will be in a position to campaign ferociously.
