Few big cities in the United States are run well, and it almost goes without saying that none of them are in Blue states.
But until relatively recently, the incompetence or corruption of city governments was counterbalanced, at least partly, by the overwhelming advantages Blue cities had, keeping them wealthy enough to putter along and remain vibrant. It took massive corruption and the spread of lawlessness to totally ruin a city, as happened to Detroit.
