Graham Platner’s own campaign team is sounding the alarm. An internal memo from the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, released Monday, laid bare a spending gap so wide that the campaign itself described its position as “being blown completely out of the water” by Republican outside groups backing Sen. Susan Collins.
The numbers tell the story plainly. Over a single week, last Tuesday through Monday, Republicans poured $4.3 million into the Maine Senate contest. Collins’s campaign accounted for $500,000 of that. PACs supporting her kicked in $3.7 million. On the Democratic side, Platner’s campaign spent $440,000. Even with ad buys from League of Labor Voters, Common Defense, and Majority Forward factored in, total Democratic spending reached just $1.6 million.
