Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said on September 9 that continued Yemeni attacks on Saudi Arabia could trigger the recently signed Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, a trilateral collective security pact involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. In an interview with Geo News, Asif stated that under the agreement, aggression against any of the three signatories is considered aggression against all, according to reports. He asserted that Yemeni retaliatory strikes ‘could trigger the pact.’
According to Saudi authorities, Yemeni strikes on Tuesday wounded more than 70 people and targeted military and energy infrastructure. The attacks also forced a halt in operations at several energy sites on September 8, according to officials.
