A clear majority of U.S. adults want an immediate end to the Iran war, rather than see the U.S. continue fighting for more concessions from Tehran, a recent survey has revealed.Overall, 78% of respondents in the latest CBS News/YouGov survey said the U.S. should “end the conflict now,” while just 22% wanted to press on for more concessions.
Those results come even as most Americans believe the U.S. has not achieved its goals. Just 22% said the deal was more favorable to the U.S. than Iran, while 37% said the opposite and 41% said the deal was evenhanded.
But most Americans think the U.S. has not accomplished its main goal of permanently stopping Iran’s nuclear program. Just 31% said the effort had been successful while 39% said it had not been.
Clear majorities also believed that the U.S. had not stopped Iran from threatening other countries (68%), had not protected the Iranian people (74%), nor flipped Iran’s leadership to pro-U.S. (79%).
Conducted June 17-19, the survey questioned 2,519 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of +/- 2.4%.
