New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed legislation on Oct. 28 that bars artificial intelligence (AI) operators from offering certain chatbot features to minors, according to the governor’s office.
State legislators approved the bill earlier this year. The law is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. Hochul signed the measure alongside separate legislation addressing security standards for baby monitors, according to the governor’s office.
