NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has detected a massive, evolving 10-sided atmospheric wave circling Saturn’s south pole, according to a study published Sept. 3, 2026, in the journal Science Advances.
The finding, reported by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, marks the first time scientists have observed a large, regularly shaped jet pattern in the planet’s southern hemisphere. The feature, which has some similarities to Saturn’s long-studied northern hexagon, is described as a “decagon.”
