Italian luxury brand Prada is expanding into the space sector, unveiling a specialized undergarment designed for NASA astronauts preparing for future lunar missions.The undergarment was developed alongside Houston-based aerospace company Axiom Space.
It was introduced Sunday during an event at Prada’s store in Manhattan.
The suit includes built-in cooling and ventilation tubing intended to help astronauts regulate body temperature during missions.
Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s chief marketing officer, said the project highlights the company’s wide-ranging technical expertise and ability to apply fashion innovation to highly specialized environments. Sitting beside a mannequin displaying the new Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment, Bertelli said advanced space technology can benefit from ideas originating outside traditional aerospace industries.
Axiom Space CEO Jonathan Cirtain echoed that sentiment, noting that industries not typically associated with space exploration can still contribute valuable design and engineering solutions.
The unveiling marks Prada’s latest collaboration with the aerospace company after the fashion house attracted attention in 2024 for helping design a next-generation spacesuit expected to be used during NASA’s planned Artemis 4 moon mission in 2028.
