Former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk has begun funding Republicans for the 2026 midterm elections, cutting checks to bolster the party after a meeting with Vice President JD Vance and chief of staff Susie Wiles.Axios reported on the dinner, which took place at the Naval Observatory. The development marks a return to the campaign trail for Musk, who publicly broke with the administration on spending issues and floated the creation of a third party earlier this year.
Musk briefly hit the trail this year to campaign for a Wisconsin Supreme Court race, though his efforts were unsuccessful. His tenure at DOGE largely oversaw the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development.
The scope of his funding thus far remains unclear, though Axios indicated Musk was likely to continue making contributions.
