“mRNA immunotherapies avert over 49,000 deaths” each year, just “among U.S. patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and metastatic melanoma,” notes Professor Jeffrey Townsend. And they had an “economic value” of “$75.6 billion.”
These numbers will rise in the future, as more mRNA therapies become available. A recently-developed mRNA vaccine saves the lives of pancreatic cancer patients, although it is still undergoing clinical trials and thus is not available to the public yet.
