BUENOS AIRES (CN) — In less than a week, Argentina’s country-risk measure has worsened and President Javier Milei’s approval rating has fallen to its lowest level since he took office in 2023. Meanwhile, the poverty rate has jumped to 32.2%, raising new questions about the government’s political standing ahead of next year’s elections.
Instead of announcing measures to address the deteriorating economic indicators or rebuild voter confidence, Milei has increasingly emphasized national security and terrorism, echoing rhetoric used by President Donald Trump’s administration in the United States.
