Microsoft is offering voluntary exit packages to about 60,000 employees—roughly a quarter of its workforce—in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. Eligible staff are at internal level 70 or below in participating teams; some sales, data-center, engineering and corporate roles are excluded. The package is similar to standard severance and includes financial support and career-transition resources, with employees reportedly having until early December to decide and departures planned for year-end. The offer comes as Microsoft increases spending on AI and data centers while seeking to control costs, following an earlier voluntary retirement program and job cuts this year. Microsoft has said the voluntary offer does not rule out further layoffs.
