Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, said she won’t be running for president in 2028. “There will be a robust group of people running for president, and I will not be one of them in 2028. I can tell you that,” Whitmer told Fox 2 Detroit.
Whitmer said that she’d received advice on the importance of “taking a break and not jumping right into something.”
Whitmer is nearing the end of her second term as governor, and due to term limits, she will not have a third term.
She is among many high-profile potential 2028 Democratic contenders for president, which includes California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.
