A 40-year-old New York man has been charged with a hate crime and criminal trespassing for allegedly getting past security at NBC studios at the 30 Rockefeller Center building in Manhattan and approaching “Today” show Craig Melvin.Police announced the charges late Friday but have not identified the defendant, who is charged with burglary and menacing, according to the Associated Press.
NBC News says in a statement that a person approached Melvin, s shot co-host, after entering an unauthorized area near Studio 1A. Melvin notified security, who held the man until police arrived, according to NBC.
“We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios,” the network also said.
It was not clear as of Friday whether the defendant has appeared in court or has an attorney.
