Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert reelection bid against Democratic challenger Eileen Laubacher was still too close to call Thursday. Laubacher held a narrow lead in the state’s 4th District U.S. House race, with 48.7% of the vote over Boebert’s 48%. As of Thursday morning, 93% of the votes counted, according to the Associated Press.
Four days before the election, President Donald Trump endorsed Boebert, calling her a “Maga warrior” in a post on X, and he held a telephone rally in support of her campaign.
The district is considered a Republican stronghold in the state, and the last time a Democrat was elected to represent the district was in 2008. She was voted out after a single term, CPR News reported.
Boebert is running for a fourth term in Congress. In 2020, she defeated incumbent GOP Rep. Scott Tipton in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, and she won reelection by only 546 votes in 2022.
Following controversies involving the end of her marriage and a viral video showing her and her date being asked to leave the Denver Performing Arts presentation of Beetlejuice in 2023, she moved across the state to the 4th District.
Laubacher has decades of military and public service. She was previously registered as a Republican, but she later became unaffiliated. Right before her deciding to run for Congress, she registered as a Democrat.
