A left-leaning advocacy group that quickly moved to defend the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) following a federal fraud indictment shares personnel, historical leadership, and coalition ties with the organization it is backing.
A federal grand jury last week charged the SPLC with wire fraud and making false statements. The indictment alleges the organization routed payments through intermediaries and shell entities to individuals and groups described in the filing as informants and affiliated sources, concealing the ultimate recipients of the funds.
