Landfill collapse in Guinea’s capital kills 30 after heavy rains trigger landslide

A massive pile of garbage collapsed onto nearby homes in Guinea’s capital early Sunday, killing at least 30 people, the central government said in an updated death toll.The collapse occurred at the Dar Es Salam landfill, the largest waste site in Conakry, after heavy rain began falling at about 2 a.m., authorities said. 
The downpour destabilized the towering mass of refuse and triggered a landslide that engulfed makeshift homes built nearby.
Rescue crews continued searching the area for possible survivors. Six people were reported seriously injured, while several homes were destroyed in the collapse.
