Lala skirts Hawaii’s Big Island, downgraded to tropical storm – 1 dead, thousands without power

Hurricane Lala weakened Sunday to a tropical storm after skirting Hawaii without making landfall, but hurricane gusts continue with at least one person dead.Despite weakening, the tropical storm conditions spread westward from Maui to Oahu, then Kauai, according to the Associated Press. 
On the Big Island, heavy surf continues to pound the coastline as high winds bend palm trees.
At least one person has died as a result of the conditions – a motorist in an accident on Big Island’s South Point. And over 130,000 households were without power Sunday morning across Hawaii’s three largest islands, according to the utility tracker poweroutage.us.
