Justice Department charges 16 in election-related cases

The U.S. Department of Justice announced charges against 16 people across several states as part of investigations into alleged illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration and other election-related offenses.The cases involve allegations of noncitizens voting in federal elections, falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register or cast ballots, and other offenses uncovered during the investigations, including naturalization and passport fraud.
According to the Justice Department, the charges include “unlawful voting by non-citizens in federal elections” and “false claims of citizenship to register or vote.” The department said the investigations also uncovered allegations involving wire fraud, naturalization fraud, passport fraud and unlawful firearm purchases.
The cases span several federal judicial districts, including districts in Texas, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Michigan. Among those charged are lawful permanent residents accused of illegally registering or voting, as well as individuals whom prosecutors allege were in the country unlawfully.
In one case, the DOJ alleges that a Venezuelan national and DACA recipient, Analiea Milliscent Eccles, voted nine times between 2008 and 2024. In another, prosecutors allege that a Mexican national in Idaho falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen to register and vote and was also involved in other alleged fraudulent activity.
The department emphasized that the cases remain allegations. 
“A complaint, indictment, and information merely contain accusations,” the DOJ stated. “All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
The announcement represents another round of federal prosecutions involving alleged violations of U.S. election laws, as the Justice Department continues investigations into voting eligibility and election-related fraud.
