Justice Department announces deportation of Afghan woman through terrorist removal court

The Justice Department announced Friday that an Afghan woman whose sons were connected to the 2024 Election Day terror plot has been deported from the United States through the never-before-used Alien Terrorist Removal Court.Nazira Haji Zada, 47 years old and living in Fort Worth, Texas, was deported last month through the unusual court, and she agreed to accept the “terrorist” label that bars her from ever returning to the United States, the department said.
The Justice Department accused Zada of working to “indoctrinate her children with ISIS ideology and have them pledge loyalty to ISIS,” which resulted in her son-in-law and son helping plot an election day terror attack in 2024 in Oklahoma.
“This landmark case, resulting in the prompt removal of this alien terrorist to her country of origin, is a win for national security and the rule of law,” Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement. 
“Those who support and condone terrorism should not be living in the United States, and this first-ever case before the ATRC shows how the Department will use every tool at its disposal to protect our country,” he also said.
The case is unusual because Zada has not been accused of directly helping to orchestrate the attack, and the case is the first to appear in front of the ATRC, which was created in 1996. The department typically seeks to imprison those accused of plotting terror attacks on the country.
Zada’s son is Abdullah Haji Zada, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the plot, Her son-in-law, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, pleaded guilty in federal court to two charges related to the plot in support of the Islamic State.
Tawhedi pleaded guilty last year to conspiring and attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS and receiving, attempting to receive, and conspiring to receive firearms and ammunition in furtherance of a federal crime of terrorism.
